Ross Juniors Under 11 Colts took to the field at Ross Sports Centre on October 6th to take on Lads Club Falcons.

The team had recently shown a lot of character, coming back from 0-3 down to draw and then scoring 9 in the next match without reply. With 15 goals in the last two matches, the crowd were looking forward to some entertainment and they were not disappointed.

Ross started well, with debutant Sam taking the ball on the halfway line, going past three players and slotting the ball in to the corner. The second soon came along following a good run down the left by Sam, who crossed for William to slot home.

Then, the opposition scored from a throw in, and Ben, in goal, was unfortunate to not get a touch and Falcons’ slotted home.

A good attack down the right from Kyle forced a corner, then, from the Ross corner, Falcons quickly broke but Ewan made a good block to stop an almost certain goal. Ewan then blocked another shot towards goal following their corner.

A Falcons’ attack from another corner led to the ball hitting the Colts’ goalpost, then Sam went forward again but was stopped in his tracks by good defence from Falcons.

Callum and Alfie were playing well in midfield, this was a real team effort with everyone playing their part.

Falcons equalised with their first attempt in the second half, the ball going under Ben, who made a good attempt to save, then Alex passed a player in midfield, surged towards goal and slotted home.

Ewan defended well as Falcons put Ben under pressure. Alex, William and Sam combined well but Sam’s effort lacked pace, Sam went down the right but the goalie smothered his effort this time. Ben continued to make some good saves and Callum was strong in defence.

This was great play by Ross, who were attacking in numbers. The ball went out to Alex on the left, who had a lot to do, but twisted and turned and passed the opposition, crashing the ball in to the roof of the net. Then an unusually quiet ten minute spell resulted in a few half chances with competitive play in the middle of the park.

Alfie cleared off the line from a Falcons’ corner, as the ball was put past Ben. Ewan then put many good balls down the right for Sam to run on to with Alfie sweeping up any danger at the back.

Sam went through the centre, crashed the ball against the post and Alex slotted home to complete his hatrick.
