Ross-on-Wye Juniors Men’s side played Milkwall Reserves on Saturday at home and had a comfortable 8 – 2 win.

Ross had the edge from the start and within five minutes Brad Wooding scored from a strange looping cross from Callum McCulloch.

Having much of the possession Ross soon had their second goal. Dave Nicholls hit the post but followed up and was first to the rebound to score. More pressure was mounting on the Milkwall defence and after 18 minutes they gave away a penalty. McCulloch stepped up to take it and fired it down the middle to make it 3 – 0 to the home side.

Ross was awarded a free kick about 30 yards out. McCulloch whipped the ball into the box with Kristian Milnes getting on the end of it but he just put the ball wide of the post. Milkwall had the ball and made their way up the pitch to get a corner. They played the ball in, keeper Bosco Barnett scraped to get a punch to it and it rebounded off a Ross player, then the ball dropped to Milkwall, who scored just before half time.

Ross seemed slow to start the second half and Milkwall scored their second from a shot outside the box, which gave Bosco little chance to save it. After 60 minutes Ross made a substitution, bringing on Toby Alexander for winger Luke Harris. They then got into an easy passing game with the ball being played down the wing from Chris Woodward to Jack Bray.

Bray then crossed the ball into Nicholls to score to make it 4 - 2. A few minutes later Nicholls hit the post with a through ball off Toby. The next chance fell to Toby, who went on one of his solo runs, he too couldn’t find the net as he also hit the post. McCulloch took another free kick and floated the ball into the box with Milnes with the knock down to Bray, and slotted the ball home in the net. A few minutes later Nicholls put the ball past the keeper and had his hat-trick, with an assist from Bray.

C Woodward picked up the ball in his own half and went on a glory run. He made his way to the edge of the box but his shot was cruelly denied by the woodwork. Ross’ seventh goal came from a McCulloch free kick from about 25 yards out, with a low powerful shot slightly deflecting off the wall.

With few minutes left on the clock, the ball got played out to winger Bray. He travelled down the line with it and managed to whip it in for defender Wayne Husbands to get his head on it and score his second goal of the season.

Physio and Health Matters Man of the Match was Dave Nicholls for his well taken hat-trick.

Ross are away to Harrow Hill on Saturday, November 21st, 2pm kick off.
