There was a competitive edge to the Ross Cup Final between Ross Juniors and Dore Valley which took place at Weston Under Penyard on Easter Monday, April 22nd.

Despite the 4-1 scoreline to Ross, the game was closely contested and Dore Valley were disappointed by the final score.

The game continued a proud tradition which started in 1935 when Broadwell, from the Forest of Dean, won the cup for the first time.

Two long serving members of the cup’s committee were on hand, Ray Cawthorne, the long serving secretary, who recently completed 50 years service for the Football Association. He has played for the cup, run the line and refereed at finals. The cups were presented by Johnny Walker HFA Chief Executive, who lives in Ross.

Steve Willmot, Chairman of the HFA, was also on the touch line. He told the Ross Gazette that he tries to support all local cup finals. He added that he hadn’t been to the ground at Weston under Penyard for a while but it had been a lovely day with a very good game.
