Ross-on-Wye Juniors U10s travelled to Kingstone on Saturday, April 9th and they turned in a great team performance.
The game kicked off in the cold and wet but this didn’t affect the visitors as they started very positively. The team didn’t have to wait long for Bill to put Ross ahead early on from the penalty spot, following a handball, and he almost doubled their lead following a mazy run into the box, but his shot found the side netting.
It wasn’t long before Ross added a second goal when Harvey’s superb cross was met by Eddie, who slotted the ball between the keeper’s legs. With Ross dominating the game, Josh had little to do in the Juniors’ goal with David and Roo defending well and the visitors had further chances to extend their lead in the first half.
There was a lovely move started by Harry which involved Theo and Luca, which set up a chance for Harvey, but a defender made a great tackle before he could get his shot away.
The Golden Valley keeper made a great save from David’s well struck free kick and then saved a shot from Eddie.
Towards the end of the half, Luca had a great chance to score when Harry and Harvey combined to set him up in front of goal, but the keeper made another good save to deny him.
Ross Juniors continued to dominate the game in the second half and it wasn’t long before they scored again. This time Roo played a great pass to Harry on the edge of the penalty area, and he, in turn, unselfishly set up Eddie who finished excellently to register his 25th league goal of the season.
Eddie then chalked up his 3rd hat-trick in the league moments later, following a fine run down the left which he finished by beating the keeper at the near post from an acute angle.
It was pretty much all one-way traffic and there were further chances for David, whose shot was saved, and Roo, who shot wide from David’s corner kick. The pressure on the Golden Valley goal soon told as Harry slid in to make it 5 – 0 before Bill went close and so too did David after another set up from Harry.
It wasn’t a good game to be in the Ross goal with so little action, but following a Golden Valley counter-attack Harvey made a great save from a shot that was heading for the top corner.
In the closing minutes of the match, Theo went on a great run down the right and set up Luca for a chance, which just ran away from him, but he gathered the ball and combined with Roo to get a shot in that just cleared the crossbar.
The last meaningful action of the match saw Josh’s shot from distance headed off the line and on the follow up Theo hit the crossbar.
The Masons Fencing & Firewood Man of the Match went to Harry Fernandez-Ford for great teamwork capped with a well taken goal.
