The Hereford FC Women’s Senior side progressed in the Herefordshire FA County Cup with a 3-1 win over the Bulls’ Development side on Tuesday night.
It was a keenly fought contest with both sides eager to get the better of the other and, after an end-to-end opening period the Senior side took the lead through Katie Young on ten minutes.
The Development side produced some good passing movement in midfield with one passage of play allowing a low drive to be fired off by Hannah Sidman, with keeper Ana Moreira forced into action to smother the ball. Shortly after a fierce drive cleared the top of the cage surrounding the 3G pitch.
The second half saw the game open up with Jess Kenny volleying a cross home in the opening minutes, but the offside flag was up and the excellent finish counted for nothing. Beth Cole was next to have a good chance, jinking past the defender before her shot was deflected away for a corner.
Both sides had efforts blazed wide before Lauren Brown added the second goal, prodding the ball home as the keeper came in with an attempted block. The Development side pushed further on looking for a goal and got caught at the back twice.
Firstly Ana Varela sent a 20-yard dipping shot off the left hand upright then, from a similar distance, Young made no mistake for the third goal of the night. The Development side finally scored late on, with Katie Morris driving the ball home after another good move.
While the experience of the Senior side won out in the end, the Development team showed enough to suggest they can comfortably step up a level next season.
