Five monthly stableford competitions in Ross Golf Club’s winter programme provide men members with the incentive to compete for the Club’s first major event in 2016, when the Annual Barnfield Trophy takes place in early March. Played off the club’s shortened yellow course, the top 12 performers from each monthly competition qualify for the final, and the penultimate Winter stableford event witnessed 88 players taking part.
On a difficult day for good scoring, 10 handicapper, Martyn Print, will have been delighted with his 41 points score to top the final score-sheet to make this his first success in Club competitions since joining the Ross Club last year. His back nine holes were particularly impressive, yielding 22 points with just one shot dropped to par. This made him the overall winner as runner-up 12 handicapper, David Letman, also carded 41 points but missed out on count-back. Other qualifiers from handicap Division 1 included Philip Taylor and Murray Thomson with 39 points each, and Alistair Watkins with 38 points and Nigel Yates with 37 points.
Fellow 38 points scorers, Colin Gladwyn and Robin Darling, qualified in previous rounds.
In handicap Division 2 Robin Ledbury with 37 points was the star performer. All of the top six members were first-time qualifiers. These were Alexander Harris, Robin Butler, Mark Dee and David Higdon with 36 points and Barry Le Feuvre with 34 points.
