Ross Juniors men’s team made it back to back wins with a hard fought 3-1 home win against Lads Club Reserves in HFA county league division 1 recently.
With storm Callum in full force, conditions were not great for a football match, but the pitch at Ross Sports Centre stood up well to the conditions. Ross played into the strong wind in the first half, which proved tricky. However, Ross were in full control of the game without really creating any clear cut chances, although Ross did have a strong penalty call turned down when Florin appeared to be pulled back in the box.
Disaster struck on 30 minutes when a mistake by Adam Jewitt allowed the home side a sight of goal which they didn’t waste with a thunderous strike past Roberts in goal to put Lads Club 1 up at half time.
Ross knew they would benefit from the conditions in the second half but would have to play some of their best football if they wanted to find a way back into the game.
They started the second half excellently, playing some outstanding football. Dewi Stuart went close on two occasions before he drew Ross level after 60 mins with a brilliant header following an outstanding cross from Eli Wooding.
Ross continued to dominate, but it was a moment of brilliance that gave them the lead. Eli picked the ball up fully 40 yards from the goal and unleashed an unstoppable drive into the top corner, a quite brilliant strike.
This seemed to take the fight out of the away side. It was no surprise when Ross scored a third on 75 minutes, a great bit of interplay between Jack Bray and Andrew Densley released Mikey Donaldson, who finished well into the bottom corner from 15 yards.
A brilliant second half performance by Ross saw them leapfrog the opposition into second place in the league. Man of the match was Eli Wooding.
Ross Juniors second team also had a promising result, drawing 2-2 with Pegasus Reserves. However, they were slightly disappointed not to take all three points after racing into a two goal lead through Jake Winter and Toby Alexander. Ross almost snatched the win in the last minute through Tommy Hall, but had to settle for a point in the end. Man of the Match was Jake Winter.
This weekend, the first team are due to be at home playing Hereford City, whilst the second team travel to face Bromyard Downs.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
