Ross Juniors U12s played hosts to Pegasus Colts last Sunday and both teams were hit with half term absentees. The home side just about managed to field a full team but unfortunately their opponents could only field 8 players (for a 9 v 9 match).

The visitors looked dangerous early on but they couldn’t take advantage of some quick breaks. Ross had a good chance following some tenacious tackling from Tom, which set up a chance for Ollie, but they soon went ahead when Tom and Theo combined on the right hand side on the visitor’s penalty area and Theo’s excellent cross was met at the far post by Ollie.

Ross almost extended their lead following a great run down the left by Jayden which saw him cross the ball to Tom, whose shot struck the post.

Pegasus continued to threaten on the break but Aaron made two vital interceptions and Josh palmed away a dangerous looking cross. Just before the break Pegasus equalised when Ross failed to clear a ball played into their goalmouth.

The second half saw the home side start to dominate the play thanks to Jake and Ethan in the centre of midfield but Pegasus still looked dangerous on the counter-attack. Ross went ahead again when Jake’s strike from the edge of the area squeezed under the body of the Pegasus keeper.

It was a goal that Jake’s play had deserved as he was excellent in midfield but hard on the Pegasus keeper who had looked solid until that point.

Pegasus had a great chance to equalise but persistence from Aaron was enough to put their lively striker off his shot. Aaron’s defensive team-mates, Bill and Theo, made some important clearances and Josh made a good save to maintain the home side’s advantage.

Some more good play from Jake saw the ball drop to Tom who drove the ball into the roof of the net to stretch the Ross lead and Jayden added the icing on the cake late on to make the final score 4 – 1.

Jake played brilliantly in midfield and Aaron did a great job limiting the Pegasus striker, but with his hard work and tenacious tackling, capped with a well taken goal, the Saltrock Scaffolding Man of the Match award went to Tom Thorne.
