Ross Juniors’ new senior women’s team walloped hosts Welland 10-1 on Sunday as they continue to build up a head of steam for their first ever league campaign.

Ross actually went 1-0 down to their upcoming Midwest Counties League rivals, but then took complete control of the match, with the team’s superior fitness playing a part in the 27C heat.

There were positives all round for Ross, as Ella Jones scored a fantastic five goals in only her third match playing as a central striker.

Lily Powell also recorded a perfect hat-trick, including a long-awaited, and fantastic headed goal.

Keira Brain scored her first goal for the team, while Naomi Douch’s brilliant strike from distance capped off the result.

The victory followed an 8-2 triumph over Mitcheldean at Ledbury FC, where Millie Malson scored a stunning six goals and Lily Powell two.

The club took more than 120 supporters to watch England’s Lionesses beat Germany 2-1 in the European Championship final at Wembley on July 31.

And now they are looking for more girl and women recruits in the wake of the national side’s success.

“We are nearing 200 female members from our girls to our women’s teams already, and we are wanting to grow it even further,” said a club spokesperson.
