The full Ross Juniors squad of 10 played the Belmont Wanderers on a bitterly cold day last weekend, and ended triumphant.

From the whistle, Ross camped in the Belmont half. Luca put a neat pass into Todd, who chipped the ball to Charlie, to slot home the first goal.

Not afraid to pass the ball back to find other avenues of attack, both Gabriel and Thomas coolly passed up the channels from defence.

Belmont defended resolutely but nothing could stop Niall, who shot across the keeper from a Charlie pass to make the score two.

A mad scramble in the Belmont area then saw five shots blocked or parried. Dylan on the right wing caused havoc, surrounded by up to three Belmont players he repeatedly made space to put in cross after cross.

Luca got the third goal from a lovely through ball by Archie.

The end of the first half saw Belmont grow in confidence, with Toby in goal forced into making a couple of neat saves.

The second half had Todd moving into a deeper midfield role, he supplied Charlie who turned and dinked it over the keeper to make the score four.

Zak, with great strength and determination, kept retrieving the ball from Belmont’s attacking midfielders.

A strike by Charlie was parried by the keeper, but Dylan was on hand to smash in the rebound. A most fluent interplay saw Charlie pass the ball back to Luca, who back-heeled to Niall, who smashed in the sixth goal.

A Messi-esque Charlie, with ball at foot, skipped passed the entire Belmont defence and calmly slotted in the seventh.

In the dying stages, Gabriel hit the post from a corner, but it was Luca, unstoppable, who got both eighth and ninth goals.
