A fresh autumn day saw Ross Juniors play Presteigne at home over the weekend.
An almost full strength squad started somewhat jittery and despite Thomas’ blocking efforts in midfield, Presteigne burst through and slotted home to make it 0-1 within the first few minutes. This had the beneficial effect of kick starting Ross’ focus and energy, and it was a confident Todd who hot footed it through their defence to smash in the equaliser.
Charlie started what was to be a game full of marauding runs on the right wing and his extreme technical prowess paid off when Niall slotted in, from a sublime Charlie cross, to take the lead.
Archie and Dylan energised both wings as well, with Archie’s characteristic speed and Dylan’s supremely confident footwork. Dylan, with a perfect Cruyff turn, made space to cross for Charlie to score Ross’ third goal.
It was then Charlie’s turn to assist Todd, who scored from a distance.
Gabriel was calm in defense, playing out from the back to feed Ross’ midfield. Dylan assisted Charlie to make it 5-1, however Presteigne managed to get one back. Toby made a couple of key saves in goal before Charlie laid the ball to Todd, who made it 6-2 at half time.
The second half saw Ross continue in the same goal scoring form, with Dylan scoring from distance to make it 7.
Zac, now in goal, had nothing but safe hands to snuff out what attempts on goal Presteigne managed. Ross were now running rampant and playing with such confidence. Niall, the fox in the box, got his second to make it 8. Archie then made it 9 and despite Presteigne getting a third goal, Niall completed his hattrick to make the score 10-3.
A double digit victory befitting of the effort, commitment and skills that Ross had demonstrated.
