Ross Juniors U12s pulled off a great victory in the cup last Sunday and are now one win away from playing in the final at Edgar Street.
Their opponents, Lads Club Galaxy, currently sit second in the A League so were favourites to advance, and the task was made even harder for Ross as they had six players unavailable for various reasons and had to play the game with no substitutes.
The match kicked off in glorious sunshine and, as expected, the visitors enjoyed the majority of the possession but Ross defended stoutly and the game remained goalless at the break. The second half continued in the same vein until a mix up between the Galaxy defence and keeper presented Jake with an open goal 25 yards out, but unfortunately his shot missed the target.
The match seemed to be heading towards extra time until another mix up gave Jake a second opportunity, and this time he made no mistake. The goal forced Galaxy to increase the tempo and minutes later they thought they had equalised but the goal was correctly ruled out for offside.
Any nerves in the home camp were soon extinguished as Ollie latched on to a loose ball and doubled the lead for Ross and secure their victory.
Ross will now meet their old adversaries FC Phoenix in the semi-final next month.
All the boys played brilliantly. Roo in goal looked secure, and the defence of Bill, Josh and Harvey dealt with everything the visitors threw at them. The midfield of Tom, Ethan, David and Ollie battled well and Jake held up the ball excellently upfront. The Saltrock Scaffolding Man of the Match award went to Bill Ashelford for some exceptional tackles and interceptions.
