Ross 2nds travelled to Bartestree for the last league game of the season and with the sun high and the temperature building, Ross had no hesitation in opting to bat after a rare win of the toss.
After a difficult opening ten overs Ross found themselves in trouble at 26-3, Michael Jeffryes and Marcus Bailey were both fresh at the crease and for the next half a dozen overs they watched, prodded and rode their luck, taking a few singles before Jeffryes seized the initiative and went on the rampage, he blitzed the bowling across 15 overs of carnage that included eight maximums, 13 further boundaries and three lost balls! Eventually he was dismissed for 120, just after Bailey had gone for 25 and then from 170-5 the rest of the order crumbled as the hosts regained their composure and Ross were bowled out for 187.
In reply, Bartestree also lost early wickets to Lizzie Jeffryes and Cameron Hill, but a dogged partnership between M Berry & A Hudson took the hosts up to 94-3 at the 20 overs drinks break. Ross looked for inspiration which came in the form of a magnificent spell from the experienced Paul Morris who took 4-22 in his ten overs, his first wicket removing the dangerous Berry, well caught by Aekudom Abbott for 58. With Ross back in the driving seat, Theo Minnie claimed 2-32 before Lizzie Jeffryes came back on to claim the final two wickets as Bartestree fell away to 147 all out giving Ross victory by 40 runs. This enabled Ross to finish an excellent season in third position in the league, just nine points short of a promotion place.
In taking 3-42 Lizzie Jeffryes finished top of the bowling charts in Marches League Division 4 with 29 wickets at an average of 9.83. Another great achievement in what has been an excellent season for Ross cricket.
