As part of their ongoing sister club relationship, 90 girls and parents from the Ross-on-Wye Juniors Football Club visited Birmingham City Ladies FC on Sunday, April 24th, for their opening Women’s Super League game, where they took on Manchester City.
The Ross girls had the opportunity to go on the pitch before kick-off, and then some lined up as guard of honour and the others as mascots.
After this, the Ross girls returned to their seats to watch a pulsating game in which Birmingham were unlucky to lose 2-0, after starting the brighter of the two teams.
Half time saw the girls go on to the pitch to take penalties, Catrin Harding, an Under 12s player, was the winner of this. Then at the end, the girls lined up to meet players from both teams and get autographs and photos.
The Manchester City team boost some of the biggest names in female football at the moment, several players also play for the England Women’s National Football team. The Ross girls saw stars such as Steph Houghton, Toni Duggan, Jill Scott and Lucy Bronze.
Paul Flitney, a coach at the Ross Juniors football club told the Ross Gazette:?“It was lovely for the girls that the Birmingham players who came to visit last week recognised them and came over to have a chat.
“It was a truly memorable day for the girls, especially Summer and Imogen who got interviewed by the stadium announcer before kick-off.”
More exciting news has reached the club that 18 Ross Juniors Girls will now be going to Wembley Stadium to do the pitch parade before the women’s FA Cup Final this year, a once in a lifetime opportunity for them to grace the hallowed turf.
