ROSS Juniors U17s travelled to Pegasus on Sunday and battled well but struggled to handle a striker in excellent form.

The home side took the lead early on, thanks to their red hot No.9, but Ross soon levelled when Jake hit a superb long range effort that found the top corner. There wasn’t much between the two sides for a while, but then two quick goals from their No.9, both from corners, put Pegasus in control and they really started to put pressure on the Ross defence. Dan made a couple of great saves in the Ross goal and both Harry and William made vital clearances to deny their opponents. Jack was unfortunate not to pull a goal back for the visitors following a great run down the right but before the end of the half the home side stretched their lead with three more goals, two of them for their inform striker.

The game seemed lost at half time for the Ross side but a spirited second half performance threatened a great comeback. A change of formation saw the visitors keep their hosts to few clear chances and create some great scoring opportunities for themselves. Jack continued to cause the Pegasus defence problems with his blistering pace and once again went close to adding another goal to his name. Myles and Charlie C battled brilliantly in the centre of the park and after Myles won a crucial tackle the ball fell to Coby who sent Lewis through on goal. The home keeper did great to deny Lewis but Lewis recovered the ball and sent in a dangerous cross that Brad almost converted, luckily Jack was on hand to follow up and grab his second goal of the game. There were further chances for Jack, and Coby also went close with a header, but Pegasus survived. Marcus, Harry, William and debutant James were dealing with everything the home side threw at them so Pegasus were reduced to long range efforts that Dan comfortably dealt with. A rather fortunate goal, the sixth of the game for the Pegasus No.9, was a blow to the visitors and with no subs, tiredness kicked in and Ross conceded two late goals which gave the score line an unfair reflection on the match itself.

The man of the match was another debutant Charlie Cole for a battling midfield performance. Ross are at home to Ledbury Swifts on Sunday afternoon.

The team still need more players, especially a goalkeeper, so if you know anyone in (school) years’ 11 or 12 please contact Dan on 07805 379403
