Sunday saw the finals of the Herefordshire Girls Futsal competition held at Weobley.

The competition, which started in January, saw Ross Juniors Under 10s play four group games first in order to qualify for the final.

In the group games Ross beat Belmont Wanderers, Lads Club Lions, Tupsley Girls and Ross Royals to progress. Due to so many girls playing football for Ross, the club was able to field three teams in this year’s competition with Ross Colts in the other group.

All Ross teams did brilliantly with many wins but only 2 teams could progress to the finals, and this year Ross Juniors and Lads Club Vixens were the two.

The final was a tense affair with Ross playing well and solidly throughout but against tough opponents they were not afforded the space they are accustomed to.

Vixens put up a stoic defence and seemed to block every shot on goal in the first five minutes. Eventually a bit of individual magic from Amelie gave Ross the lead.

This was then followed up with a second before half time, with Amelie setting birthday girl Bel up to score. Vixens threatened several times but with Hannah brilliant in goal and the defence of Amy and Izzy on top form they were afforded no clear chances.

The second half was more comfortable for Ross, Eva won everything in midfield ensuring possession remained in Vixens half.

Katie was a menace throughout and fitted into the team well, she was always looking for the ball and quickly closing the opposition down. A brilliant pass from Bel found Amelie midway through second half and Ross made it 3-0.

The score stayed that way ensuring Ross were crowned County Futsal Champions for the U10 age range for the second year in a row. The girls will now go on to the regional finals in Birmingham to represent the County.

The girls have excelled again and in five games of futsal in the tournament have scored 36 goals and conceded none.
