Ross Juniors Under 16s travelled to Solihull for their first away game of the season, and the boys were beaten by a strong physical side.

The Juniors started brightly having the best of the early play, but without ever really threatening to score. Gradually Solihull settled down and began to play their way into the game.

Solihull scored after 25 minutes when a header was flicked over the heads of the Ross defence. The Juniors were under pressure now, and only a series of superb saves from goalie Brandon kept the score down. However, Brandon could do nothing about Solihull’s second goal; a free kick that fizzed into the corner of net.

But within a couple of minutes, Ross pulled a goal back. From a corner kick the ball ricocheted around the penalty area before Ross captain Nathaniel shot and scored.

Ross played their best football for the remainder of the first half, but couldn’t sustain it after the break.

Straight after the restart Solihull scored their third, putting the game beyond reach. Brandon again performed heroics in goal, but the Ross forwards rarely threatened his Solihull opposite number.

Next Saturday at 10.30am Ross Juniors welcome visitors from Tividale.
