Ross Juniors over 50s Walking Football side travelled to Hereford, on June 12th, to take part in a tournament organised by Hereford FA to celebrate the winning of the World Cup 50 years ago by England. The day was overcast but thankfully the rain kept away.
There were six sides entered, which meant all teams played five games to walking football rules. The games where officiated by referees on smaller pitches to suit the six-a-side format, each game lasting just ten minutes.
The games were played in a good spirit with the teams ages ranging from early 50s to late 70s.
The teams were from around the county of Herefordshire and also from Worcester and one from Gloucestershire. The eventual winners were the team from Gloucestershire (Stroud) with nine points.
The Ross Juniors side put in some good performances to gain the second place spot in the League format, which was used to position the teams. Their tally was six points, which was achieved by winning one game, drawing three games and one defeat, claiming the second spot on goal difference from the other two sides that ended up on six points.
Ron Goulding, who runs the Ross Walking Football Club, told the Ross Gazette:?“Our thanks go to Hereford FA for organising the tournament and the Referees for officiating, and again we look forward to the future and hopefully more tournaments of this nature.”
If you feel you would like to give walking football a try, please contact Ron on 01989 750546. If you leave a message he will get back to you as soon as he can. The team is always looking for new players and ability is not a factor. If you are over the age of 50, you would be most welcome to join the team for some fun and exercise.
