Earlier this year Ross Juniors were delighted to hear they had been awarded a McDonalds Showcase Football Day. Previously the club has hosted a local event but never a major showcase event. On Saturday, September 1st from 10am-2pm, Ross teams will be playing many local teams in pre-season friendly games, and alongside this there will be a mass of attractions for all to participate in.

One group who have already expressed interest in the upcoming event is Leisure Link. Leisure link is a project set up by local Charity Enviroability, which aims to get people with learning difficulties and from disadvantaged groups, integrated into the community and accessing social networks.

Jim Loftus from Ross Juniors approached Sam Humble who organises the Leisure Link events and said that they were interested in getting people from the above groups involved in and joining in the fun of playing football. Leisure Link and Ross Juniors teamed up and came up with the idea of setting up some taster matches on the same day as the showcase, with the possibility of the matches becoming a regular event.

Sam Humble, Leisure Link organiser, said: “It’s great to hear that Ross Juniors are as enthusiastic as we are in giving people from all backgrounds and abilities the chance to be involved in sports leisure activities. The team are really looking forward to attending and being part of the showcase, and we look forward to welcoming new faces to our friendly group.”

If you are interested in joining in the fun or require any other information regarding Leisure Link please call Sam on 01989 763388.

The event is free to attend and all are welcome. It is being held at Ross Sports Centre on Wilton Road.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
