Ross Juniors U9s travelled to Leominster on Saturday to face last season’s stand out team.
It was to no surprise that Leominster dominated the early play but the Ross defence of Riley and Owen stood firm and kept their opponents at bay. The first decent opportunity of the game did fall to Leominster but Tyron made a great, last ditch clearance before their player could get his shot away.
There was a pulsating battle in the midfield and both defences were on top until, midway through the half, Alex collected the ball on the halfway line, advanced down the right flank and unleashed a terrific long range shot that flew into the back of the Leominster net.
The second half wasn’t dissimilar to the first, with few clear-cut chances for either team. Leominster tried their luck from distance a few times but Morgan wasn’t troubled at all, and there was the occasional scare for Ross, but Zak and Owen did well to clear.
Riley, Alex and Tyron worked hard in the midfield to deny Leominster too many opportunities to get back into the game. Ross looked the more likely to add further goals, with Alex heading over Leighton’s corner kick and Tyron going close after beating a couple of opponents on the edge of the area. Timmy went close when he went on a run from his own half and Alex shot wide from a tricky angle with their Leominster goalkeeper stranded.
The Nick Thomas Landscapes player of the match was Tyron.
