In an exciting game against Huntley, the team’s new sponsors, and a small crowd of supporters, witnessed a 12 goal thriller.

The experienced Huntley side terrorised the Howle Hill defence and went three up in the early stages of the game. However Howle Hill worked hard and gained confidence bringing the score to 1-3 at half-time, with an excellently placed penalty kick by new signing Jonathon Atkinson.

Early in the second half Tom Shotton struck to bring the bring the home side back into the game at 2-4. Huntley however kicked on and managed to put another three well worked goals past the Howle Hill defence. The Howle Hill players did not give up and worked very hard on the counter attack with a fantastic goal from another new signing, Joe Loftus, another from Jonathon and another excellent strike from Tom Shotton brought the game to a close at 5-7.

At the first game of the season on Saturday, August 20th, Howle Hill lost 4-1 to a very good Whitecroft side. They put up a sterling performance in the first half which finished at 1-1. Unfortunately they tired in the later stages and succumbed to the experience of the home team.

Howle Hill will play their home games at Weston-under-Penyard playing fields and would welcome any support from local football enthusiasts this season. Anybody interested in joining the squad is welcome to attend training sessions at 7pm Thursday evenings at Weston. Fixtures can be found on the FA website Full-Time.thefa.com under North Gloucestershire Association.

The team was delighted to welcome their new sponsor, Peter Dowle, of Howle Hill Nursery to their second game of the new season. They are now playing in the North Gloucestershire Premier Division, for only the second time in Howle Hill’s history.

Peter and his team provided the club with a new strip for their season and supported the club for their match at home versus Huntley, on Tuesday, August 23rd.

Howle Hill have had a very successful couple of seasons leading up to this year, with back to back promotions, winning Division 2 in 2014/2015 and gaining promotion last year from Division 1 into the Premier Division.

The campaign last season also found them reach three cup finals and winning two of them. They overcame Tenbury United 2-0 to take home the Hereford Junior Cup, beat Whitecroft Reserves 2-0 to win the George Sandoe Cup but unfortunately missed out to Holme Lacey in the Ross Cup.

Club Captain, Ben Williams, is delighted with recent success and praises the squad’s attitude and application. “They have all been brilliant and worked really hard through pre-season training”.

Manager, Andrew Stacey, is confident that his team can compete in this higher league with a definite improvement in play over the last few seasons, and a few additions to the squad, he is keen to tackle the challenges ahead. “Every game is going to be difficult but we just want to go out and give a really good account of ourselves.”
