Ross Juniors U10s signed off the league season with a hard fought win against Pegasus Colts on Saturday.

The home side thought they had scored early on when Jake laid the ball across the goalmouth for JT, but the keeper somehow stopped the ball on the line and then moments later Pegasus threatened on the counter attack, but thankfully Eddie made a vital interception.

JT went close when he fired a shot just over the bar from a distance before Ross took the lead, with Eddie laying the ball to Jake, who hit a wonderful long range effort that dipped under the crossbar, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.

The home side started to pass the ball around and Harvey B went close when Theo and Eddie combined to set him up, and then Harvey sent over a great cross that found JT unmarked in the box but his shot was comfortably saved. Pegasus saw plenty of the ball and often threatened but David made some vital blocks, tackles and clearances, and when the visitors did get a shot away Roo was on hand to make a save.

Ross almost got the 2nd goal their dominance deserved late on in the half when Harvey G sent Theo through on goal but his attempted cross was blocked by a defender in the goalmouth.

After the change around, there was an early long range shot from Owen that almost found the top corner and then Harvey G and Theo combined again to create an opportunity but Ross couldn’t make another breakthrough. Pegasus started to try their luck with some shots from distance and hit two good efforts that Roo did well to save, and then Ross had a great chance as Bill’s long range effort was only parried and fell awkwardly to Harvey G 5 yards out but he did really well to hit a first time shot that narrowly missed the target.

Pegasus pressed for an equaliser and Roo was called upon to make another save before they grabbed an equaliser which the home side probably should have dealt with before they got a shot in. That goal didn’t deflate the Juniors as they carved out some great chances in the minutes that followed.

The first saw Harvey B fire just over the bar from the edge of the area following a great run and lay off from Eddie, and then Luca and Eddie combined to set up Harvey B but he unfortunately missed from close range. Harvey B had another chance to score but couldn’t quite get his foot around the ball to find the target but just as time was running out Bill fired a great long range effort which again dipped under the crossbar to secure a hard fought but well-deserved win.

The Masons Fencing & Firewood Man of the Match goes to David Mason for a great defensive display.

The league season may be over but preparations for next season, and a move to 9-a-side, has just started with the first of many friendlies planned for Saturday, April 23rd.
