Bouncing back from the previous weekend’s away defeat, the Ross-on-Wye Juniors gained an important win at home to visitors from the Black Country. Despite the freezing conditions, Ross started brightly and attacked from the whistle, with Luke and Josh P both coming close in the opening minutes. The hard work was rewarded after eight minutes when Owain darted down the left wing, crossing low to find Luke in the box, who volleyed home.
The home team were on the front foot and doubled their lead just two minutes later. This time Joel was the provider, racing down the wing and crossing to Luke who scored with a glancing header.
The weather made it difficult for both teams, with a bitterly cold crosswind making play hard and the ball hard to control, but in the second half it was the visitors who came out stronger.
Despite being under strength Tividale pushed the Juniors very hard and pulled a goal back after 10 minutes. For a while they looked likely to score again, but Ross were always dangerous on the counter-attack.
With fifteen minutes to go, the home team put the game out of reach when Joel’s shot was pushed into the net by one of the Tividale defenders. It was not a dominant performance by Ross Juniors but the welcome three points puts them back in the top ten of the Midland Junior Premier League.
Come and watch the boys at Ross Sports Centre, on Saturday, November 28th 10.30am, when they host Tividale Colts.
