Hereford Scrumpy Boys FC over 50s walking football team, which has several members from Ross-on-Wye, just missed out on a place at the final of the FA Peoples Cup for over 50s walking football.

The team entered the cup on January 24th and played at Shrewsbury where they qualified for the semi-finals. These were held in Nottingham, on Sunday, March 6th.

Up against teams from Sheffield, Shrewsbury, Norwich and Birmingham the Hereford team won five of their games and lost one. At that point they understood that the top two teams qualified for the finals. Hereford had clearly come second but were then told that play offs would take place.

Sadly they lost in the play off game to a team from Birmingham they had already beaten 4-1 and 9-6 in the quarter finals.

The Scrumpy Boys, whose youngest player is 51, the oldest 76, and which also contains a father and son, are still hopeful of a place in the final. They have made a complaint to the FA regarding the last minute change of rules.
