Last week saw Hereford scrumpy boys over 60’s walking football team progress to the last eight of the national cup, where they will represent the South West of England in Manchester.
After comfortable wins in the previous round, they progressed with a 1-0 win over Weston-super-Mare, with the solitary goal coming from Chirs Hills.
The club’s Director of Football, Mark Catlin, said:?“I am so proud of the boys. It’s the first time they have entered the over 60 national cup.
“For the past four weeks I have coached them on a new formation, which they adapted to quickly and it showed in the game against Weston-super-Mare.
“When the club broke away from the Hereford FA’s umbrella three years ago, the future was uncertain. To now see the over 50s regularly progress in the early rounds of the national cup, which has over 700 teams enter, and now the success of the over 60s, has made the players all believe in what they can go on to achieve as an independent club.”
The club has been going for four years now and teams play at over 50 and over 60, in both the Gloucester and Hereford league. They are always looking additional members who can play at competitive level.
