Ross-on-Wye - 4

Littledean - 1

Ross Juniors Men travelled to Littledean on Saturday, April 30th and came away 4 - 1 winners. Ross came to the game knowing another 3 points was all they were after to keep their league winners title going.

They were soon putting the pressure on Littledean with a couple of chances going to Jack Jennings in the first five minutes which the striker couldn’t put away. After 10 minutes Callum Trotman headed the ball over the bar off a Ross corner. Ross was soon 1 - 0 up after a own goal from the Littledean defender off a Sammy Taylor corner.

Ross kept the pressure on another corner and the ball was flicked on which fell to Chris Woodward; he had an open goal but the defender put the ball over the bar.

Callum McCulloch was keeping it tight at the back alongside Wayne Husbands and they were both winning every tackle that came their way. On the 25 minute mark Dave Nicholls had the ball out wide, it then fell nicely to Jennings who was about to shoot for winger Luke Harris to pinch the ball off him and score 2 - 0. Last chance of the half and Woodward picked the ball up from his own half, went on a darting run down the left flank and got into the box to shoot, but the ball went horribly wide.

Five minutes into the second half, keeper Aaron Thorley had goal kicked the ball, which got flicked on by Trotman, who set up Jennings and took a touch and fired home in to the bottom corner to get his well deserved goal. The score at 3 - 0.

With half an hour to go Harris and Jennings made way for Brad Wooding and Ben Gardner; the pairing were causing all sorts of havoc for the Littledean defence and keeper to deny both strikers. With 75 minutes gone there was another Thorley goal kick for Nicholls to head onto Gardner, which ended in back of the net for a score of 4 - 0.

Ross defence was a bit disappointed to let in a goal at the end. Ross had switched off and the Littledean midfield broke off a Ross chance.

The Rub a Dub Dub Man of the Match went to Callum McCulloch for his impressive performance in the back line. On Saturday, May 7th Ross take on Weston in their last game of the season; a win for Ross means they are league winners, a loss and it’s out of their hands. Kick off is at 2.30pm at Weston playing fields.
