Ross Juniors men’s 1st team recently entertained Hereford City at Ross Sports Centre, and after a tight first half Ross managed to make it 3 wins on the bounce with a conformable 5 - 0 victory.
Due to the poor weather the game had to be switched to the second pitch on the Talbots. This pitch was slightly tighter than the main pitch and this didn’t help Ross in the early exchanges, with the strong physical away side working hard to cut the space down in midfield.
Although the score stayed level for the first 30 minutes, Ross always looked the more likely to score, with captain, Adam Jewitt, and fellow centre half, Ted Loftus, breaking down any forward play by Hereford.
The breakthrough came on 30 minutes, an excellent tackle by Burford allowed Joe Loftus some space in midfield to burst past several tackles to play in veteran forward Dewi Stuart, who shrugged off the last defender and finished with confidence into the bottom corner.
The goal scored seemed to take the wind out of the away team and Ross had further chances to score before half time but the score remained at 1 -0 at half time.
Ross came out firing in the second half and it wasn’t long until they went 2 up, with a close range finish from top score Florin, his 7th goal in six games this season. The midfield of Joe Loftus, Densley and Donaldson now started to run the show, it wasn’t long until Ross got their 3rd when a good ball into the box by Loftus was turned into his own net by the Hereford defender.
The goal of the game was the 4th, substitutes Moreton and Reid linked up well, then Moreton whipped in an excellent ball into the box which Reid met on the volley to give the keeper no chance. Jewitt got in on the action, when he took the keeper by surprise with an early shot from 25 yards to score Ross 5th and final goal of the game. Another excellent all round performance by Ross, Man of the Match was Joe Loftus.
The 2nd team had yet another positive result when they drew 3 - 3 away from home at Bromyard. Early goals from Paddy Virgo and Tommy Hall put Ross 2 up but were pegged back to 2 all before Hall once agin put them ahead, unfortunately they could not see out the game and had to settle for a draw.
The day saw a very good result for a very young Ross side against a strong experienced Bromyard side. The Man of the Match was Tommy Hall.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
