Kim Hampson, Captain of Ross Golf Club, organised Prizes Day recently, an 18 hole singles stableford competition, and the event was a resounding success, as 115 entrants took part in the event.

The partcipants enjoyed a complimentary Pimms and ice-cream, in addition to super-fast greens which had been cut low and ironed, with some demanding pin positions to provide plenty of talking points throughout the day.

The race for the top spot proved to be a youth vs experience contest, as the in-form Ross Juniors Vice-Captain, 16-year-old Liam Greig, maintained his highly successful summer season to score two birdies and eight pars in his 40 points haul. He has now become a single figure nine-handicapper, having started 2017 playing off 16.

The runner up on count-back with 37 points was Club President, nine handicapper Doug Duncanson. As a septuagenarian, Doug can feel well pleased that he should be closest to overhauling one of the Ross Club’s ‘young guns’.

Adrian Hope, also with 37 points, was in third place, alongside fellow 37 pointers Mike Merrick, Matt Humphries, Harvey Hancock and Joe Irvine.

Graham Jell and Peter Cliffe carded 36 points each, and the most effective ladies player of the day was 13 handicapper, Sally Fycun, who scored a highly creditable 34 points.

There were prizes to take home for the birdie two scorers who were Paul Cresswell, Nigel Lifely, Mike Merrick, Tom Packham, Tim Rigden, Peter Smith and Graham White with nearest the pin prizes for Mike Merrick, Kevin D’Lonra and Carol Smith.
