THE first Cyclocross in the Forest of Dean for over 20 years took place recently. Despite the overnight rain,

the event was well supported with a field just short of 100 riders ranging from seven years to 71.

The event took place at Worcester Lodge Enclosure and took in a grassy loop followed by a circuit into the forest to test rider handling skills. Conditions were slippery for everyone, including RDFCC Steve Beal who took several nasty falls.

RDFCC’s Jared Linden was placed third place in the senior men’s event, and the under 23’s event, being beaten by Joe Griffiths (TORQ Performance) and Chris Rothwell (Ride 24/7).

RDFCC were well represented in the veterans’ race, with Matt Neale, Henry McGill and first timer, Steve Beal placing well. Anthony White was the best Club finisher in an excellent fourth place.

But the star ride for the club was Iwona Szmyd who won the women’s event.
