On Saturday, July 21st, playing in temperatures exceeding 25°C, Goodrich Ladies ’A’ttitudes played their penultimate match at home against higher ranked Bewdley A Ladies in Division 3 of the H & W Summer League in front of a packed audience.
Although first pair Cath Hutchinson and Rachael Wintle got off to a good start against their opposite number in their first rubber, winning the first set 6-2, they let the second set slip away from them 4-6, but rallied again in the third set taking it to a tie-break but disappointingly this also went the way of Bewdley.
Their second rubber, this time just two sets, 1-6/4-6, again went in favour of Bewdley. ’A’ttitudes second pair, Kim Martin and Steph Howell put in another fine performance, winning both of their rubbers, 6-2/6-2 in the first, and 6-1 / 7-5 in the second.
Finally, third pair Jill Brown and Kirsten Ainsworth could not overcome the Bewdley pairings going down 2-6/1-6 and 3-6/2-6 in their respective rubbers, but overall it was a very satisfying result for the ladies, picking up four valuable points against a strong Bewdley side who look like they will top the league and gain promotion.
So there was much to celebrate for the ’A’ttitudes ahead of their final match away to Worcester B on Sunday, August 12th, when hopefully the weather will have cooled down slightly.
