On Sunday May 11th Ross Girls XI hosted Lydney Flintoffs at The Park in their second league match in the Leadon Vale Youth Cricket League. Lydney won the toss, elected to bowl, and cut a swathe through Ross' top order, bagging three early wickets before Jess Element, Tasha Dutson and Shannon Comfort provided some resistance, with Shannon seeing out the innings as Lydney took 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Lydney's reply was brimming with confidence as their opening bat, J Knox (30*) retired not out with Lizzie Jeffryes claiming the only wicket for Ross (2-1-4-1) as Lydney romped home for a comfortable away win. Lydney is a strong side in the Leadon Vale League and the Girls XI all round performance is undoubtedly improving all the time. Last Tuesday the Girls visited Aston Ingham for their first Pairs Format match of the 2014 season. Early evening illness meant that Ross travelled with only seven girls but all were up for getting in some much-needed practice and doing their best! Ross won the toss and put the home side in to bat. Aston Ingham posted 245 for 4 after their allotted 16 overs. Ross Girls opened with Anna Ricks and Chloe Tingle who did well against some decent bowling to post 219 with the loss of one wicket - Net runs 214. Elysia Cotton and Tasha Dutson added 18 runs without loss. Shannon Comfort and Ellie Lown both defended well as the net runs moved on to 256. Bethan Ferreira and Elysia Cotton were untroubled by Aston Ingham's younger bowlers. Ross finished on 273 for the loss of only 1 wicket after their allotted 16 overs and the team were delighted with the result.
