Ross Golf Club’s series of monthly winter stableford competitions, from which ultimately emerges the winner of the Club’s 2020 honours board major Barnfield Trophy, continued its dynamic of being spread over two days to accommodate the numbers involved, which includes both men and ladies sections. The top 12 performers qualify from each of the five rounds so that a 60 player start-sheet will contest for the Barnfield Trophy title on March 28th next year.

The November stableford competition played on the yellow course kick-started proceedings and the significant contrast in weather conditions clearly favoured those taking part in the Sunday event which witnessed just 70 members taking part overall.

The rain free Sunday certainly suited 16 handicapper Richard Osborne, a relative newcomer to the club whose 41 stableford points score included nine pars, and earned him a one shot handicap reduction in finishing number one on the combined final results table.

The remaining top 11 qualifiers were representative of most sections with eight handicapper Robin Darling, Ross Seniors Champion in both 2017 and 2018 finishing runner-up in carding a highly impressive 40 points score with his game coming alive on the back nine holes played in gross level par and including three birdies.

Robin pushed teenager, 13 handicapper, Leo Powell’s 40 points haul into 3rd place on count-back, followed by a host of 39 pointers headed by 2019 Ross Juniors Captain Harry Griffiths, whose gross level par 72 round moved his handicap to two and a step closer to a coveted scratch status.
