The last few weeks have seen numerous tournaments and events involving all sections at South Herefordshire Golf Club, and as well as some excellent scoring throughout individual events, several of the club teams have also been successful.

In the Men’s section the Handicap League team has continued its unbeaten start with a very creditable draw away to Burghill. This leaves the team at the top of their group and with one more match to play a single point will ensure qualification for the knockout phases. Similarly, the Scratch League side of Simon Sharpe, Paul Stone, Jon Tookey and Tom Shotton won their first fixture at home against a strong Herefordshire by 2.5 to 1.5.

The Spring Cup, which is a stableford format, saw a magical round from Harry Porter of 40 points take the trophy, followed hopefully by a severe cut in handicap for the Summer Cup at the end of the month!

The Seniors saw the two rounds of the club championship played by a very large number of entries. Despite it not being the best of weather there was some very good golf played on what is currently a course in the best of conditions. Congratulations to Mike Nash, who deservedly came out on top as the Gross Champion, with last year’s captain Eifion Rees producing two excellent rounds to take the Net Championship.

The Seniors friendly fixtures continued with a home game against Woodlake Park and once again the team managed a half with a score of 3-3. The major fun competition of the month saw the team of Garry West, Jon Davies and Simon Rutter produce a winning score of 63.1 in a Texas Scramble format.

With both Ladies’ and Men’s Championships coming soon and further success in team competitions anticipated, one can only see the golfing future at South Herefordshire to be a busy and bright one in the next few months.
