The South Herefordshire Seniors Section AGM was well attended despite the inclement weather. The outgoing captain, John Duvall, thanked members for their support throughout the year, and especially for raising £1,602 for his chosen charity, Dementia UK. He acknowledged the significant boost thanks to Keith Nind’s charity stroll through the Alps.
John reflected on a successful year, mentioning in particular the Captain’s away day at The Monmouthshire Golf Club, the three day tour to Bryn Meadows, Captain’s drive in and the Christmas party. All events during the year were well supported with the party being over subscribed.
John also thanked all those seniors who volunteered to play in the matches – out of the 28 played, 46% were won, an improvement on the previous year. Further, John pointed out that during the year membership of the seniors had increased from the low eighties to high nineties.
John thanked Paul, Sarah and the rest of the staff for providing an environment in which the section had been able to flourish. He complimented them for the excellent condition of the course, the fine food and the pleasant welcoming bar staff.
Following his report John handed over to the incoming captain, Malcolm Connah, whom he thanked for his support throughout the year. Malcolm proceeded with the election of officers and committee. The following were elected Fred Cook was elected as the Vice Captain, John Harper as Secretary and Treasurer, Richard Hammett as Competitions Manager, and the Committee is now John Duvall, Chris Burgess, Brian Carver, Jon Davies and Eifion Rees.
Malcolm thanked John for organising and presiding over a very successful year. He went on to outline his programme for the coming year, especially his away day at Cottrell Park, and the tour to Hawkstone Park which is already fully booked.
