At a well attended AGM of Ross Mens’ Seniors, members duly elected and welcomed Andrew Baldwin as their Seniors Captain who takes command after a successful season in the care of outgoing Seniors Captain, David Price.

Andrew, a capable 19 handicap golfer, joined the Ross Club in 2010 when he played off a 25 handicap and his dedicated approach to improving himself has always paid dividends and he is well placed to continue the year on year progress being made by the Seniors section. In his address as outgoing Seniors Captain, David Price presented Andrew with the Rogues Trophy as the top performer at the three days Aberdovey Golf Club tour in July which David was responsible for returning to the seniors calendar and Andrew is committed to supporting in 2019.

David also made a glowing tribute to Patrick Curtis who has been an integral part of the Seniors administration for more than 20 years and is now standing down while continuing to involve himself in the Club’s main events programme.

On his Committee, Andrew, as Seniors Captain will have the benefit of Colin Price, a popular choice and another dedicated golfer who was elected as his Vice Captain. Paul Dando becomes match secretary and his predecessor, Wref Digings was highly praised for his past services while still remaining on the Committee with former Seniors Captain Steve Martin taking responsibility on the IT and competitions front. Keith Ray will have his 11th year as Seniors Secretary to look forward to and the support of Tim Rigden who has worked alongside him during that time with Scott Thomson as Treasurer and Graham Russell again providing specialised support. Hugh Elliott, who has been a valued committee member for three years stands down.

Ross Club Captain Robert Tuttiett and former Club Captain Kim Hampson were on hand to receive, as current holders, the Winter League Shield for the 2017/18 series of matches played in Patrick’s name each year. Charlie Walker collected the Layton Eclectic Cup and the day’s Greensomes Stableford Winners in the 16 holes event, which preceded the AGM for the second successive year, included David Holborow, this time partnering David Crocker with an outrageous 45 points score.

Other prize winners were Hugh Elliott/Peter Reynolds and Steven Finn/Peter Metcalfe with 42 points each and David Beavan/Robin Taylor with 41 points.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
