Ross Golf Club’s annual Eclectic Cup package, which attracts members to weekly nine holes of late afternoon/early evening competitive golf, throughout the Spring and Summer, continues to thrive largely thanks to the combined driving forces of Nigel Yates and Danny Gear.

Throughout 2017, from March to September, 50 members have been taking advantage of the facility, aiming to emerge as one of the finalists from the 4 sessions of 6 weeks, in order take part in an end of season Cup Final, played over 18 holes of stableford golf.

In an exciting finish, Tim Kefalas and David Higdon, both carded 37 points each, with Tim claiming the title. Tim played some stunning golf, and thanks to a one point advantage on count back, which saw Adrian Hope score 33 points and Jerry Webb 32 points.

This was Tim’s second major over a few days spell, after celebrating his honours board Harold Bradley Cup success on the Club’s Knock-out Finals day. For Adrian Hope, his Eclectic Cup experience may have provided the inspiration for him to subsequently win the prestigious Autumn Scratch and Handicap event. He made an impressive and outrageous nett 64 medal score to win the event, in which 102 members took part.

As always, Ross Club members appreciate and value the interest and involvement of former Ryder Cup Captain, Brian Huggett. Brian was again guest of honour at the well attended Eclectic Cup dinner party to present the Trophy to Tim and provide entertainment, with an enthralling question and answer golf quiz, for which Brian has become something of an engaging specialist.
