The South Herefordshire finals day was a great success. The weather and the condition of the course added to the enjoyment. The Summer senior pairs knock out competition was won by Mike Bain & John Wynne, defeating Roger Barnes & David Houghton 5&4. The final of the seniors singles competition was a closely encountered affair. The pair, Tony Morris and Eifion Rees, were both off 19 and there was never more than one hole in the contest until the very end. Played in excellent spirit they were both level teeing off the 16th. Both had puts for a par, Morris, going first, saw his ball balance on the edge of the hole, Rees took advantage and holed out to go one up. On the 17th tee, Rees played safe taking a recovery wood and pitching the ball on the verge of the green. Morris found the rough with his first ball and went out of bounds with his second. At this stage Morris conceded and the shaking of hands meant that Rees won 2&1.
