Despite the forecast of heavy rain and high winds, members of Ross-on-Wye Golf Club were not deterred and Head Professional Tim Hall was appreciative and delighted that he was able to welcome a full house of 25 teams of four members each to take part in a 16 holes Texas Scramble medal as a fundraising initiative for the Club’s Juniors Academy.
Ultimately, the competition developed into a very close run tussle between three highly accomplished teams, with the top prizes being earned with a nett medal score of 49 by John Hartle, Elwyn Hamer, Terry Jarrett and David Duberley, with Terry very much valuing the occasion after his recent recovery from a hip operation.
The runners-up were Club Vice Captain, Warren Moore, Matt Hillier, Barry Norton and Hannah Whibley with a nett 49.1 score, followed by Tim Wyatt, Neil Lancett, Colin Bennion and Joe Irvine with a nett 49.3 medal score.
There were also nearest the pin prizes at the three par three holes which were earned by Warren Moore, Matt Hillier and Bob Cook.
As part of the day’s fundraising campaign, members enjoyed being invited and challenged to better the tee-shot of two handicapper Niall Powell across the Club’s 12th pond hole, giving rise to some wild celebrations to add to the festive occasion.
Linked with the Tim Hall ’School of Golf’ Christmas Draw which members supported generously, a total of 24 prizes found their way to the fortunate winners and the combined benefit from both occasions for the Juniors Academy was £186.
