Earlier this year, the lady members of the Harewood End Agricultural Society decided to add some challenge and development to their lives when they signed up to a sporting learning experience where they were all newcomers.

They may have been influenced by the fact that their lessons in a four Stage process also represented something of a delightful ‘walk with nature’ taking place in the wooded hills at Ross-on-Wye Golf Club’s gem of a golf course, which 50 years ago was Two Park Wood, Gorsley.

The aim of ‘Get Into Golf’ a National campaign which is supported by England Golf, is to inspire adults to take up golf and play more often and has meant that 12 ladies in recent weeks have been attending the ‘School of Golf’ based at the Ross Club and have been in the care of Head Professional, Tim Hall and his Assistant, Oli Leett.

The taster sessions which the ‘dynamic dozen’ have been receiving have introduced them to tuition on the driving range, on the putting green with Aimpoint specialist Oli and on the golf course where the group played the Club’s 10th, 11th and 12th holes.

Oli said: “The whole experience has been one of great fun and light-heartedness and the celebrations on the 12th Tee when more than half of the group achieved their objective of driving across the pond to the green that awaited them, were something special.”

With each pupil receiving a custom fitted seven iron for satisfactorily completing their programme, it reflects well on everyone that the group are looking forward to ‘going back to school’ in 2016 having enrolled for the four stage Beginner’s sessions and the opportunity to improve their golfing skills and each will receive a new putter.

Largely through ‘School of Golf’ initiatives like this one, a culture of ’continuous improvement’ has been responsible for Ross members witnessing a dynamic environment within their Club in recent years, which is being much valued and proving almost unstoppable.

The fact that the ‘Tim Hall School of Golf’ was rewarded last week by being recognised as the winner of the ‘Small Business of 2015’ category in the annual Ross Gazette awards provides further testimony and acknowledgement.
