Ross-on-Wye?Golf Club’s annual finals day proved an engaging day of golf with Sophie Price and Dave Gardner taking the ladies and men’s titles respectively.

The two 36 holes each Singles Finals to determine the Club’s 2015 Ladies Champion attracted most interest, with 16-year-old Ross Juniors Captain, Sophie Price aiming to complete a sensational season of successes on several fronts in the Ladies and Juniors events.

Sophie faced Sarah Forrest for the privilege of becoming Ladies Champion and with Sarah’s putting very much on good form, a close encounter was the outcome of the opening 18 holes, with lunch taken and the match all square.

While both Sarah and Sophie will have drawn some inspiration from their respective birdies at the 21st hole, it was Sophie who found some added mental strength and her ’focus on process’ strategy will have undoubtedly helped to find herself five holes up by the time the 27th hole was played.

Sophie was able to sustain this momentum and a 8/6 winning margin made her Ladies Champion.

The 36 holes final to determine the Men’s Champion witnessed the Club’s only scratch players doing battle, with Dave Gardner aiming to deny James Dobbs the title of back to back Championship wins after James’s success in 2014.

Dave has enjoyed a highly effective year in which he has come down to scratch from a 2 handicap, and he immediately found his consistency so that he was a massive 6 holes up after 18 holes. While James will be pleased that he initiated a fight back after lunch, sensible play by Dave in the circumstances kept James just out of reach and meant that Dave was able to celebrate the Presentational evening as Ross Men’s Champion. In addition, Dave and James Morgan received the Eddie Hodges 4 BBB Cup.
