Members of the South Herefordshire Golf Club held their AGM at the club house recently. It was a great opportunity to bring together members of all sections of the golf club and formally recognise the members of each Section’s committee for the 2017 year.
During the AGM, SHGC members were very pleased to welcome Mary Sheldon from the Midlands Air Ambulance charity. Mary is the Regional Fundraising Manager for Herefordshire and she was presented with a cheque for £1155, along with a full collection tin.
The Midlands Air Ambulance was the joint nominated charity by the 2016 Ladies and Men’s Section Captains, Debbie Griffiths and Allan Haines. Money was raised throughout 2016 in a number of events held at South Herefordshire Golf Club including charity days, members bunker fines and raffles.
On accepting the donation from the club, Mary went on to thank the assembled members before moving on to explain a little bit about the charity and the type of things fundraising goes towards.
Three air ambulances are used to cover the three counties at a cost of £1million per year. Fundraising is crucial to the charity.
Midlands Air Ambulance has been around for 25 years and has a current fleet of three helicopters, although thanks to fundraising efforts and donations, this is about to be increased to four aircraft.
