Goodrich Cricket Club started its 2013 season by winning the Goodrich Cup. Played for since 1909, this year's challengers, in a two day, test match were Clapham CC from London.

As it happened the sun joined in too, helping Goodrich post a handsome target on a good track from the first 40 overs. Rowan Friend scored a fine century and Sam Griffiths scored a faultless and patient 65, backed up with a cavalier 49 not out from Ellis Rutsch. Goodrich finished on 274 at tea on the first day.

Clapham fell into a false sense of security having gorged on the feast laid on by Sarah Evans. They declined on the quick singles between the wickets, leaving them to play big scoring pressure shots against some tight bowling from Harry Powell and Ralph Heaven-Richards. The Clapham batsmen got in and got out for a total of 174.

Both teams retired to the village hall for the Big Quiz and afterwards for curry at The Hostelrie.

Play resumed at 11am the following day with Goodrich trying to post a quick 100 then retire but Golden Duck Davies and Magic Wand Ward lost their wickets in the first over and others tumbled in succession. Brown held things together scoring 50 then retired leaving Clapham no option but to attack the target of 250.
