Blustery conditions and a mix of bright sunshine on Sunday, March 1, followed by heavy sleet showers, accompanied the Goodrich ‘C’hasers while they were playing at home against Hallow ‘B’ in Division Five West of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Winter League.

‘C’hasers first pair, Kayla Coopey and Sue Russell, had a very tight first rubber against the Hallow first pair, winning the first set 6-4, then conceding the second set 2-6.

With one set apiece and very little difference between the pairs it was no surprise the third set went to a tie-break which went the way of Hallow. On the other court ‘C’hasers second pair, Carolyn Riddell and Ros Wadsworth, won 6-2 / 6-3.

Although it was all square, Goodrich had the advantage of an extra set, and going into the second round this was to prove very valuable.

Kayla and Sue made light work of their second rubber, dropping just one game on their way to a 6-0 / 6-1 win. Carolyn and Ros also had a tight match against the Hallow first pair. Despite a tie-break, it went the way of Hallow, as did the second set, 2-6. Although the final score was two rubbers each, the ‘C’hasers got the winning draw, as they had the extra set, five sets versus four.
