When local residents, Zsolt Guti and his partner Nicola, last contacted the Ross Gazette, they were driving through Marrakesh, Morrocco.

They are taking part in the ‘World’s last great adventure’, having driven 1,200 miles from Ross-on-Wye to take part in a navigational race which takes motorists from Europe to Africa.

Zsolt told the Ross Gazette: “We did all of the Stage 1 challenges yesterday, including a photo outside Rick’s Cafe in Casablanca - a replica from the movie.

“Also an amazing off road section through small villages. We came across a well and then out of nowhere a local came to fill up for his animals.”

From the start of the Budapest to Bamako Rally, on January 31st, the couple will travel through 14 stages over 17 days through Morroco, Mauritania, Senegal, Guinea, Senegal and Sierra Leone.
