The juniors at Ross Rowing Club were very appreciative of, and inspired by, the coaching of Dan Cooper, the assistant coach for the Great Britain Junior Programme at British Rowing.
The GB programme is the high performance arm of British Rowing and one of Dan’s roles is to support coaches to train and prepare their young athletes to be better placed to represent GB in international competitions at junior level and senior level in the future.
Rowing is the nation’s most continuously successful Olympic sport, having won a gold medal in every Olympic Games since 1984.
Some of the Ross Junior Rowers aspire to be selected for GB but first are required to go through a rigorous GB trial process which is a combination of compulsory land based and water based assessments throughout the season.
The junior rowers and coaches must meet the necessary criteria to be considered for selection.
The opportunity to work with Dan and glean his advice on how to build good athletes was wonderful. The rowers at Ross Rowing Club were very grateful for the opportunity with him.
members of Ross-on-Wye’s Rowing Club were excited to welcome the assistant coach for Great Britain, Dan Cooper, to offer his expertise.
Dan made the journey to Ross-on-Wye from his coaching base which is in Twickenham to provide Ross Juniors and their coaches with some top tips on how they should be training to become expert rowers, both on and off the water, to be the best they possibly can.
