After some hard work by ground staff on Saturday morning Greytree was fit for Ross' first game of 2013. Sitting fifth after the Christmas break, Ross were determined to get off to a positive start and were able to grind out a comfortable win and move themselves up to forth in the table.
After all the rain in December it was a minor miracle that the game was on as a week earlier the pitches, and surroundings, were an ocean of water. Conditions were heavy and this made it difficult for both sides to play expansive rugby. However, credit to both sides as they looked to move the ball at every opportunity. This, unsurprisingly, led to a number of passes going to ground and it was Ross that were able to get on the front foot at scrum time. In heavy conditions this was critical in laying the foundations for their victory. Wayne Williams, Luke Ward, Tony Clements and Matt Redman scrimmaged magnificently throughout making it virtually impossible for Bredon to get front foot ball. When they did move the ball, Casey Morgan, Gavin Oates and Craig Smith put them on the floor and the visitors were not able to make any use of their possession. It was from a scrum that Ross opened their account. Craig Powell moved the ball left from a scrum on half way, Huw Bellamy quickly moved it to Dan Field.
