British Eventing Horse Trials are once again being held on August 8th and 9th in the beautiful grounds of Homme House, Much Marcle by kind permission of John and Jocelyn Finnigan.

This will be the eighth year of the competition and it continues to be very popular with both competitors and spectators alike. This year there are over 600 national and international riders representing nine different nations. Representatives from five Olympic teams have registered to ride at the event.

Spectators are welcome to come and watch some of the worlds’ best riders perform dressage, show jumping and cross-country riding.

There are also many trade stands to browse, not only for the horsey minded but also a variety of others ranging from jewellery, children’s books, garden crafts and gifts to suit all pockets. There will be plenty of locally produced food and drink on offer as well as delicious ice cream and a variety of jams! Alternatively spectators may like to bring a picnic and watch the action on the cross-country course. The water jump is usually a popular spot! Last year straw bales were placed around the show jumping arena which were very much appreciated, and the organisers will be also be placing some by the water jump on the cross-country course.

The organisers have again chosen Midlands Air Ambulance as their charity. They will be having a stand again this year, bringing their very popular and newly revamped pod. This was a huge hit with young children last year.

The organisers have requested people attending the event with their dogs to make sure to bag up their poo and take the poo bag either to a rubbish bin or take it home. Leaving poo on the ground in a plastic bag is not only unacceptable, but also environmentally unfriendly. There are complimentary dog biscuits and a water bowl at the Secretary’s Marquee.

Here’s hoping for some good weather, entrance is free, so take some time and come and enjoy yourselves! There is plenty of parking and a designated wheelchair access area on the cross-country course – please ask for details at the Secretary’s Marque.
