HOWLE Hill travelled to Lydbrook on Saturday, looking to extend their unbeaten run to three games in the North Gloucester Division 2. The Hillmen started the game strongly and an Arron Phelps header was cleared off the line in the opening ten minutes.
Hill continued to dominate the game and took a deserved lead when Lee Edwards finished a good move with a finish from six yards. The back four of Ryan Stacey, Ben Williams, Matt Davies and Aaron Evans marshalled in goal by George Miles continued to control any threat Lydbrook could offer.
Howle extended the lead when a back heel from Phelps was met by Bobby Hatch to smash home from 18 yards.
The second half started slowly but the midfield duo of Phin Parsons and Rob McAfee soon got hold of the game. The continued threat of James O'Brien down the left paid off when he fed Matty Davies. He beat three players to tee up Edwards to score his second from close range. Soon after the Hill made it four with another Hatch strike from a Phelps' pass.
With ten minutes remaining The Hillmen were awarded a penalty after a foul on Phelps. Lee stepped forward to get his hat trick but his effort hit the bar and the line before going safe. With two minutes left, substitutes Andrew Bevan and Haydn Walters were involved in a move to see Walters score with a power header. The man of the match was Lee Edwards.
Next week Howle Hill are at home to Soudley in a 2.30pm kick off at Ross Sports Centre.
