WELSH Newton Common was the picturesque setting for rounds three and four of the Husqvarna ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship last weekend, with a tally of national and international biking stars. Run in association with the Ross-based Mercian Dirt Riders club, this venue, said organiser Jonty Edmonds, "is arguably the best. As well as featuring a hillside scramble circuit, numerous 'motocross style' fast and flowing grass track sections and a number of streams provided additional challenges, while mature woodland guaranteed further great racing."

World Champion David Knight couldn't make it this year, however Teddy Blazusiak from Poland and Ricky Dietrick from USA, came prepared for a weekend of hard battling.

The UK's Under 23 sensation Danny McCanney entered the weekend as favourite for top honours in his class. By claiming a double victory in Aldershot, the reigning Under 23 champion got his title defence off to the perfect start. Grabbing a commanding victory at round one, the young Manxman fought back in the closing moments of round two to snatch the win on the final test. There was also a modest, yet strong team of woman racers. Jane Daniels (KTM) continued to be the favourite in the Women's class. With a dominating performance in Aldershot, she was eager to add to her winning tally at rounds three and four.
