John Kyrle High School U16 Girls Hockey team have qualified for the West of England Finals.

Girls from Years 10 and 11 at John Kyrle have enjoyed some great successes on the hockey field.

On Monday, October 2nd, John Kyrle hosted John Masefield and St Mary’s. The John Masefield game was end-to-end with John Kyrle coming out top, with a 1-0 win.

The St Mary’s game was a little more one-sided in favour of John Kyrle but the girls were unable to get the ball past the goalkeeper and the game finished with a 0-0 result.

Having qualified for the finals which took place on October 9th, the girls travelled to Whitecross, Hereford to play Lady Hawkins in the semi-final. A 1-0 victory took the John Kyrle team through to the final which was played against Hereford Cathedral School. For most of the match, Hereford Cathedral didn’t get a shot on goal.

The Cathedral goalkeeper was much busier but managed to save all of the efforts from the John Kyrle girls. Ultimately Cathedral were able to take advantage of two short corners and scored from both.

The John Kyrle girls now go through as runners up to the West of England finals to be played at Clifton College in early November.

The school is very proud of the students for their hard work and commitment to training and grateful to Pete Jenkins who has been coaching the team for the last few years.
